Anxiety order lands Braves' Ayala on DL

The Atlanta Braves placed reliever Luis Ayala on the 15-day disabled list because of an anxiety disorder and recalled David Carpenter as a roster replacement, the team announced Tuesday.

Ayala, a veteran of nine major-league seasons, came to Atlanta earlier this month in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles for Chris Jones. The right-hander had pitched 4 2/3 innings and given up two runs since joining the Braves.

The 35-year-old Ayala broke into the majors with the Expos in 2003. He suffered a serious elbow injury in 2006 but recovered to pitch for the Nationals, Marlins, Yankees and Orioles. He spent the 2010 season in the minors and then came back to post a 2.09 ERA for the Yankees in 2011 and a 2.66 ERA last season for the Orioles.
