Anthony Rizzo becomes youngest to ever win Branch Rickey Award

Major League Baseball has been handing out the Branch Rickey Award, which "recognizes professionals in Major League Baseball for exceptional community service", annually since 1992. This year's winner is Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs.

Rizzo, 25, becomes the youngest player to ever win the award.

Each of the 30 MLB teams nominates one player and then a national panel of 400 members votes. Rizzo won on the strength of various charity activities -- such as two "Cook-off for Cancer" events in Chicago, in which he raised over $500,000.

Last season's winner was Clayton Kershaw. Other active MLB players who have won the award include R.A. Dickey (2012), Shane Victorino (2011) and Torii Hunter (2009).
