Anthony Perosh Hoping to Get a Top 10 Opponent at UFC Fight Night 33
With Australian light heavyweight Anthony Perosh likely to take his place on the upcoming UFC Fight Night 33 card on Dec. 7in Brisbane, Australia, a fight against Ryan Bader is one that interests the “Hippo.”
“I won’t call anyone out today, but I just want to fight someone ranked higher than me,” Perosh said. “I’m not in the Top 10 either, but I’d love a Top 10 fight. If I get one, great; if not, I hope for someone coming off a couple of wins and gives me the chance to move up the ranks.”
When asked about a potential match-up with Ryan Bader, who recent was knocked out by Glover Teixeira, Perosh responded, “We”ll have to see, there could be a match there.”
Perosh, 41, is a pioneering figure in the sport of MMA in Australia, and a fight on the December UFC card would mark 10 years since he made his pro debut in Queensland.
“I made my MMA debut at the end of November 2003, so it would be a 10 year anniversary of my pro fight,” he continued. “I would love to fight in December in Queensland. My first fight was there 10 years ago.”
Perosh is coming off a 16-second knockout of Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 163, who stated before the fight that if he’s not able to beat Perosh then he should be cut from the UFC and that’s exactly how it played out.
“Some fighters do a lot of trash talk, but I'm kind of not one of them,” Perosh said. “When you see that remark a few days before the fight, I let my guard down and I caught the douche bag. That's as far as I went with my trash talk.”
While the final decision whether Perosh will fight on the card or not is expected in the next two to three weeks, the UFC's Tom Wright is looking to stack the card with Australian fighters.
“I always will push Joe Silva and Sean Shelby, and Dana (White) to have as many local fighters on the card as possible,” Wright said. “I was talking about wanting to have Anthony Perosh on the card and there’s some great Australian athletes.
“We are probably in the next two to three weeks, going to see this card fill up.”
