Albany 65, UMBC 48

Albany won for the ninth time in 10 games, getting a combined 32 points from its starting backcourt in a 65-48 win over visiting Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

Guards Mike Black and Jacob Iati led the Great Danes (12-3) with 17 and 15 points, respectively, while Sam Rowley came off the bench to add eight points and seven rebounds.

The Great Danes shot 45.5 percent (20 of 44) from the field, and made 31 percent (5 of 16) of their 3-point tries. They outrebounded the Retrievers 36-28.

Brett Roseboro and Ryan Cook each had 12 points to lead the Retrievers (2-12). UMBC's Brian Neller added eight points, and Roseboro grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

The Retrievers shot just 34.5 percent (19 of 55) from the field and just 26.3 percent (5 of 19) from 3-point range.

The Great Danes took a 30-24 lead into the half, but the Retrievers cut the lead to four points on a Roseboro layup with 16:54 remaining.

However, Albany went on a 19-3 run over an eight-minute span to extend the lead to 51-31. The Great Danes then cruised to the win.
