49ers Go Down to Chargers, 38-35 in Overtime
Frank Gore had a big night for the offense, but it was not enough to avoid a late loss for the 49ers against the Chargers, 38-35, at home.
Colin Kaepernick found the end zone two times (1 pass, 1 rush) on 15 of 24 passing for 114 yards and one fumble. Philip Rivers ended up going 33 of 54 with 356 yards passing, four touchdowns and three picks for the Chargers.
Gore was a standout player for the 49ers, rushing for 158 yards on 26 attempts with a touchdown. In the first quarter, he made the most of an opening for a 52-yard score. Bruce Ellington snagged one ball for 8 yards with a touchdown. He also added a score on the ground.
The San Francisco defense failed, giving up 356 yards passing and 98 rushing while bringing back one interception for a touchdown. They sacked Rivers two times.
Chargers tight end Antonio Gates had a big game, putting up 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Eddie Royal also put together a noteworthy performance with 94 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The 49ers will play host to the Cardinals (11-3) next week while the Chargers head to Kansas City to face off with the Chiefs (8-6).
