49ers activate Manningham, Wright; waive Asomugha

The San Francisco 49ers announced Monday that they activated wide receiver Mario Manningham from the physically unable to perform list, cornerback Eric Wright from the reserve/non-football injury list and waived cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Manningham signed with the 49ers in March 2012 and had 42 catches for 449 yards with one touchdown in 12 games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury at the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 23.

The 49ers placed Manningham on the PUP list on Aug. 27. He returned to practice Oct. 15.

Manningham has 202 receptions for 2,764 yards with 19 touchdowns in his six-year career.

Wright signed with the 49ers on Aug. 8 and was placed on the reserve/NFI list Aug. 27. He also returned to practice Oct. 15.

Wright has 363 tackles, one sack, 14 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 70 pass breakups in 85 NFL games. He played with the Cleveland Browns for four seasons, before going to the Detroit Lions in 2011 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012.

Asomugha had three tackles and two pass breakups in three games this season after signing a one-year deal with the 49ers in the offseason.

The 11-year veteran was regarded as one of the league's top cornerbacks while playing for the Oakland Raiders but his play dropped off considerably in his two years with the Philadelphia Eagles (2011-12). He was a first-team All-Pro in 2008 and 2010, and was named to the second-team in 2006 when he intercepted eight passes, including four for touchdowns. He was selected to three straight Pro Bowls from 2008-10.
