2016 Outfielder Rankings
Time for some All-Star break fun: here are my very, very preliminary 2016 player rankings. I’ve done my best to list players where they’ll be eligible next year, and the free agents-to-be are listed without teams. Players with options for next year are still listed with their current teams if those options are likely to be exercised.
Along with the position rankings is a top 300 list for 2016. Click to see other preliminary 2016 rankings:

Outfielders
o The top four here seems pretty well set in stone, with Harper, Stanton and McCutchen following Trout. The next 15 spots are a jumble, though. Puig needs to show more power in the second half to justify the fifth spot. I like Springer’s upside a lot, but durability concerns are creeping in there. I only prefer Cespedes that high if he’s in Detroit or in a similarly comfortable situation elsewhere. Justin Upton’s placement also depends on his landing spot in free agency.
o Conforto is easily the highest minor leaguer on the list, coming in at No. 55. He might get to take over as the Mets’ left fielder in the coming weeks. The next true prospect is Winker at No. 93. He’s hitting .271/.378/.392 as a 21-year-old in Double-A this year. He lacks top-notch fantasy upside, but the on-base skills are real and he should break into Cincinnati’s lineup sometime early next year. Also at the bottom of the top 100 are Piscotty, O’Brien and Liriano. Piscotty would be quite a bit higher if he had a clearer path to the majors in St. Louis. Heyward could leave in free agency, but I doubt the Cardinals would be willing to go forward with a Holliday-Grichuk-Piscotty outfield to open next year. O’Brien still has the possibility of catcher eligibility boosting his ranking. I’m skeptical about his bat, but his power is legit. Liriano was a forgotten man in San Diego this year because of the Kemp, Upton and Myers acquisition, but the Padres will likely have some room in their outfield next year and he should be first in line for a spot ahead of fellow prospects Renfroe and Jankowski, both of whom are at the bottom of the rankings.
