Pre-draft camp canceling workouts

The NBA won’t just be moving its pre-draft camp to Chicago this year, it will dramatically scale down the annual evaluation of prospective draft picks, a league source said Monday.

After fewer and fewer top prospects have been willing to audition for NBA executives in the four-day event, the NBA has decided to eliminate the five-on-five games and virtually all of the basketball competition. The NBA will brings its potential draft picks and team executives together in late May at Tim Grover’s Attack Athletics facility in Chicago for primarily physicals, personal interviews and testing.

After three years in Orlando at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, the NBA decided that it no longer needed the excess space for basketball games there. Most player agents have dissuaded their players from jeopardizing draft status by playing before front-office executives and coaches at the camp. Most prefer more controlled, individual workout situations.
