Predraft camp report
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Each day from the NBA's predraft camp, Yahoo! Sports will compile opinions of talent evaluators from around the league on prospects who are helping and hurting their draft stock.
Here are the studs and duds from Thursday's scrimmage.
RISING
Jared Jordan, 6-foot-2 guard, Marist – Getting better as the camp progresses. He put on a passing clinic Thursday and also showed he has the ability to score. He had eight points, seven assists and zero turnovers in a little over 19 minutes.
Chris Richard, 6-9 forward, Florida – Scouts like his toughness and strength. He played behind Al Horford and Joakim Noah at Florida, but has shown that he deserves consideration as a second-round pick.
Sun Yue, 6-9 forward, China – Teams like his ability to pass and shoot. He has good court vision and good athleticism. He has surprised several teams with his play.
Taurean Green, 6-foot guard, Florida – Continues to impress scouts with his floor game and range on his jump shot. He is likely a second-round pick but could play his way into the first round.
Demetris Nichols, 6-7 forward, Syracuse – Scouts love his ability to shoot the ball, especially from deep. He went 3-for-4 from three-point range and made some nice moves going to the basket. His stock continues to climb.
Ramon Sessions, 6-3 guard, Nevada – He is distributing the ball well, and on Thursday, he showed he can score. Teams feel that he is a solid point guard, but if he goes back to school, they believe he can be a first-round pick next year.
James Mays, 6-9 forward, Clemson – Scouts love his quickness and leaping ability. He does a good job rebounding and is very active. Although teams have been impressed, they feel he should go back to school in order to get more skilled offensively.
Jared Dudley, 6-7 forward, Boston College – Reminds scouts of Ryan Gomes. He is a very intelligent player who knows how to play. He is more effective as an undersized power forward than as a small forward.
Aaron Gray, 7-foot center, Pittsburgh – He may not technically be rising, but he is putting up solid numbers (16 points and five rebounds on Thursday). He has holes in his game, but his size and strength make him one of only a few guys playing in Orlando that has a chance to be drafted in the first round.
FALLING
Dominic James, 5-11 guard, Marquette – He continues to struggle with his shooting, but his decision making was better on Thursday. Teams believe that he needs to go back to school.
Daequan Cook, 6-4 guard, Ohio State – Although he played better on Thursday, scouts remain disappointed. Cook was projected as a first-rounder prior to the camp, but he has shown very little to warrant that consideration thus far.
Mustafa Shakur, 6-3 guard, Arizona – He put up some decent numbers on Thursday, but scouts still left disappointed. He only goes right and is limited in what he can do offensively. He looked better as a freshman than he does currently.
Jermareo Davidson, 6-10 forward, Alabama – Scouts are still waiting for him to separate himself. He came in with a reputation as a good rebounder with good athleticism, but he has demonstrated neither through the first two days.
