We slipped a photo of this into yesterday's NBA Media Day roundup, but, well, offseason work like this really deserves a post of its own. That and a bad "DeShawn Stevenson, Abe Lincoln and a young Barry Bonds holding a mirror walk into a tattoo parlor ... " type of joke. Anybody know one?

Following in the footsteps of role models Mike Tyson and Stephon Marbury(notes) — with a lil' Stephen Jackson, circa 2007 thrown in for good measure — Stevenson reported to the Washington Wizards' training camp Monday with a couple of new tattoos covering his face and neck.

Mike Jones of The Washington Times maps Stevenson's new ink:

"On his right temple, along his hairline is etched 'LONDYN,' his 1-year-old son's name. On his left cheekbone is inked [a backwards] Pittsburgh Pirate's 'P,' 'for Pittsburgh, that's my favorite team.' [...] The final new [face] tat is a crack on the left side of Stevenson's forehead. He said it's because 'I don't crack. I feel like people always try to break me, but I don't crack. So, I put that there.'"

As John Taylor points out, "Mr. Unbreakable" Stevenson played in just 32 games last season because of a herniated disc in his back, which required surgery. "But those kind of details aren't near as fun as these tattoos." So true — especially when you see the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, tattooed on Stevenson's adam's apple. That just screams "fun." (And a little "crazy.")

ABE UPDATE: I've had a lot of people asking about the significance of that Abe tat. As far as I know, Stevenson actually hasn't explained that one, which probably means he had a few crumpled five-dollar bills in his pocket while getting tatted up. (Note to clueless Canadians: Lincoln's portrait is on the front of the U.S. $5.) That makes sense, I guess, but I tend to like Shoals' alternative theories.
