Dodgers place Puig on DL, recall Toles

The Los Angeles Dodgers' worries about right fielder Yasiel Puig were confirmed Monday, as the club placed him on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain, a day after he was removed from the lineup.

The Dodgers recalled outfielder Andrew Toles from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill Puig's spot on the roster.

Puig, 27, is on the disabled list for the second time this season. He was sidelined with a hip pointer in late April and early May. He suffered the current injury Sunday while fouling off a ball in the fifth inning against the Los Angeles Angels. He hit a three-run home run earlier in the game.

"I don't know how long I'll be out," Puig said after the game Sunday night.

In 76 games for Los Angeles this season, the Cuba native is batting .265 with 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

Toles, 26, last played for the Dodgers on May 9, 2017 before he was placed on the disabled list with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. In 34 games with Oklahoma City this season, he is hitting .326 with four home runs and 22 RBIs.

The Dodgers open a four-game series in San Diego on Monday night.
