Snowstorm at The Hawthorns made for the perfect holiday card setting

It certainly wasn't the first time English sides have played in the snow on Boxing Day, but still, the scenes at The Hawthorns during Manchester City's 3-1 victory over West Brom were something to behold.

City built a comfortable 3-0 lead on a flurry of first-half goals by Fernando, Yaya Toure and David Silva. Then as the defending Premier League champions were methodically playing out the final 45 to remain three points back of first-place Chelsea, the weather quickly became the topic of conversation as the conditions began to resemble those of a memorable World Cup qualifier in Colorado.

Unlike the United States' controversial 1-0 win over Costa Rica, Friday's game was never in danger of being suspended. However, playing in the snow is never as fun as watching teams find a way to deal with the elements.

"It was quite difficult and impossible to play because the ball was very slow," City right back Bacary Sagna told the club's website. "And it was quite difficult to see as well."

Sagna and his teammates will surely like what lays ahead of them, though – a home match against Burnley on Sunday and another excellent chance to add three more points.
