Jose Mourinho is no stranger to using a press conference to highlight his own magnificence while slighting a rival, and he did exactly that following Chelsea's 3-1 victory over Manchester Utd on Sunday.
The Portuguese manager constantly berated referees while at Real Madrid and was a major contributor to the retirement of Anders Frisk, but this season he has reinvented himself as a friend and confidant to Premier League officials.
In his presser, he insisted that he does not want his players "to complicate life for the referees" like those of certain other clubs, whose managers let them force referees into making wrong decisions.
He made it clear he was not talking about David Moyes — the man who was recently fined £8,000 for lampooning referees — but was aiming his comments at those who "cry when it’s not going in their favor" and don't cry when they win penalties. He also implied he was angry certain managers who refuse to criticize their own players.
Mou didn't specifically name anyone, but when he mentioned that "the pundits are friends and wear the same shirts as them," it was quite clear he was referring to his previous beef with Liverpool analysts and Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.
When pushed for a name by the journalists in attendance, Mou smiled and said he was referring to "an under-16 game I watched."
The Chelsea boss seems to forget that Rodgers did publicly lambast Luis Suarez for his diving antics last year, but that didn't stop him doing a mind-games-tastic impersonation of his whining. It's not a terrible impression, but it needs a little more Northern irish twang and a lot more David Brent from The Office.
