Gigi Buffon’s wonderfully animated reaction to Japan’s dubious penalty

Japan were awarded a dubious penalty and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was booked for the painfully obvious non-foul pictured above. Keisuke Honda then scored from the penalty spot to give Japan a surprising 1-0 lead in the 21st minute and then Shinji Kagawa made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute with a great goal of his own. Italy eventually got a goal back with a Daniele De Rossi header off a corner kick in the 41st minute. But Buffon did not passively accept the referee decision that started this chain of events...

"Pardon me, I care to differ with your frankly unfathomable opinion..."

"YOUR STUBBORNNESS IS MAKING MY HEAD FEEL LIKE AN EXPLODING BREAKFAST MELON"

"Look how wide my eyes are! Does this not give you an indication of the magnitude of how badly you have ruined my life right now?"

"Idiots gonna idiot."

UPDATE: Italy jumped ahead of Japan early in the second half with an own goal from Atsuto Uchida and another mysterious penalty call, this time for a handball. Mario Balotelli converted the penalty because that's what he always does and that made it 3-2.

UPDATE II: Japan equalized with a Shinji Okazaki header from a free kick in the 69th minute.

UPDATE III: Italy win 4-3 on a Sebastian Giovinco goal, but words cannot do justice to the madness this match contained.
