49ers allowing Shawntae Spencer to seek trade

Cornerback Shawntae Sheldon has been with the San Francisco 49ers since the team selected him in the second round of the 2004 draft out of Pittsburgh. Since then, he's had 306 solo tackles, 11 interceptions, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and a touchdown.

But last year the soon-to-be 30-year-old only delivered five total tackles in nine games and the team is ready to see him wearing another team's uniform. The team is "in the process of granting (him) permission to seek a trade," sources told CSNBayArea.com.

The site notes that on the day after the season ended, Spencer said that he would be switching agents since the one he had, David Dunn, has "close ties to coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke." Spencer has now hired his new rep, Peter Schaffer, who CSN notes was his agent earlier in his career.
