Pass or Fail: Blackhawks playoff rap anthem; Canadiens Black Keys homage

The Chicago Blackhawks have two Stanley Cup in four years, the best captain in hockey and pretty much a hundred other reasons why they could win it all again this postseason.

What don’t they have? A RAP ANTHEM FOR THE 2014 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS. Well, until now; take it away, Ricochet!

A few thoughts:

1. A buzzer doesn’t ring, idiot. I don’t care what The Bangles said.

2. “Even with your starters in” is obviously a leftover from his song for the Bulls, because an NHL team’s starters can frequently be their third line.

3. No player name checks? Yet another dude afraid of the lyrical challenges of “Hjalmarsson.”

4. This is a nice effort and all, but it’s not the best Blackhawks rap song.

In fact, we think this one, while the best, is also completely perfect for our new hip-hop friend Ricochet?

Meanwhile, in Montreal, radio station CHOM 97.7 has created “Banners,” which is a play on The Black Keys’ “Gold On The Ceiling," as a playoff anthem for the Montreal Canadiens in their battle against the Boston Bruins.

Take a listen:

Awesome that they put the lyrics on the video so we can not sing along. And in French, too!

Overall, we really like this song, because it perfectly captures the Canadiens fan experience, which is using their franchise’s championship history as the response to any taunt or criticism:

“You know, it’s just a matter of time until the Bruins right the ship and start domination this …”

“BANNERS BANNERS BANNERS BANNERS BANNERS!!!!!!!@1!”!!!

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to get working on our Montreal playoff anthem “#Bannerz” based on the classic Miley Cyrus track … but before we do:

PASS OR FAIL: The Blackhawks rap and Canadiens Black Keys’ playoff anthems.
