Mike Green out up to 3 weeks with ‘upper body injury’

Red Wings

Mike Green is off to a slow start for the Detroit Red Wings, with just one assist in seven games in 19:37 of ice time per game – that’s with 2:29 of it spent on the power play per game, where Green was expected to excel.

Well, the news gets worse for Green and the Wings: He’ll miss up to three weeks with an upper body injury, following his huge hit behind the net by Josh Jooris of the Calgary Flames:

Yikes.

Green left that game on Friday night in the first period and didn’t return. Ansar Khan reported that the injury, undisclosed other than “upper body”, will keep Green out two to three weeks.  Jakub Kindl, recently a healthy scratch, was in the lineup during practice on Monday.

As Capitals fans noted during his time in DC, Green hasn’t played more than 72 games in a season since 2009-10.

Ironically, that Flames game was the first in which Green was paired with No. 1 defenseman Niklas Kronwall in the hopes of getting him going. Instead, he’s out for the foreseeable future.
