Jagr tweets NHL All-Star Game 3-on-3 format would 'kill me'

Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr indicated he does not want fans to vote him into the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.

Jagr posted a funny tweet saying he was too old to be voted into the game, which will be played in Nashville on Jan. 31. This year the NHL changed the format to 3-on-3 in order to add more excitement to the mid-winter game, which had become stale in recent years.

The 3-on-3 format, which has been used in overtime this season, has its share of player critics partially because it lends to more skating in the extra session than years past. But overall it has been seen as a positive, since it has a higher rate of ending games before shootouts.

As of this blog posting, Jagr was the fourth-highest vote getter as listed on the NHL’s website.

Former NHLer Teemu Selanne made a funny jab at Jagr, to which Jagr responded.

Here is how the fan vote works according to a release from the NHL.

Fans will cast votes online at NHL.com/Vote and via a mobile ballot for one player from each Division, without regard to position. Voting concludes Friday, Jan. 1, with the top vote-getters by division – regardless of position – named All-Stars and captains. The remaining 40 NHL All-Stars will be named by the NHL Hockey Operations Department.

John Scott, the leading vote getter, said he did not want to be voted into the game. Scott, a 33-year-old enforcer, has played six games this year. Jagr, 43, is the fourth-highest scoring player in NHL history with 1,820 points. He has 18 points in 22 games this season to lead the Panthers in scoring.
