Devin Setoguchi fined for high stick on Kyle Quincey, will never get back those 11 cents (VIDEO)

At 15:16 of the second period on Sunday, Devin Setoguchi of the Minnesota Wild caught Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey in the face with his stick. As the video shows, Setoguchi thought Quincey might go at him high with his own stick during their center ice collision. He didn’t, and Setoguchi ended up taking a double-minor.

On Tuesday, he earned a fine from the NHL Dept. of Player Safety for his actions:

(No word if Wild fans were relieved that Setoguchi, of the 8.3 shooting percentage, actually hit a target during the game.)

From the NHL:

Minnesota Wild forward Devin Setoguchi has been fined $8,108.11, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for high-sticking Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey in NHL Game No. 216 in Minnesota on Sunday, February 17, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 15:16 of the second period. Setoguchi was assessed a double-minor penalty for high-sticking. The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

You may notice that the fine for Setoguchi is a little odd. Please recall that in the new CBA, the NHL changed the rules on fines, upping the maximum for a repeat offender to $10,000 instead of the paltry $2,500 under the old deal.

As a first-time offender, the maximum Setoguchi could be fined was the lesser of $10,000 or one-half of his daily salary. The Gooch makes $3 million this season.
