Blues offense breaks through on offside challenged goal (Video)
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A goal by Troy Brouwer that ended the San Jose Sharks’ shutout streak of the St. Louis Blues was challenged in the first period of Game 4 as offside.
The challenge by San Jose coach Peter DeBoer took several minutes before the on-ice official determined it was a goal.
According to the replay it seemed the Blues could have been offside as they entered the Sharks' zone on the power play, but overall it didn’t look conclusive on the replay and the goal stood. The NHL said St. Louis entered the zone legally.
Said the NHL:
After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Linesman determined that the Blues entered the attacking zone legally prior to the goal.
Therefore the original call stands - good goal St. Louis Blues.
Since the Coach's Challenge did not result in the original call being overturned, the San Jose Sharks forfeit their time-out.
This made the game 1-0 in favor of the Blues with 13:46 left in the first period. Before the goal, Sharks goaltender Martin Jones held a shutout streak of 153:57 over the Blues. It was St. Louis first goal since Jori Lehtera's at the 9:15 mark of the second period in Game 1.
