Ben Scrivens dives a goal away vs. Vancouver (GIF)

On Wednesday night, the Vancouver Canucks thought they put a goal past Edmonton Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens. But it was waved off because Alex Burrows got a little too close to the Oilers goalie, who toppled over like a Jenga tower.

Look, we all know Burrows goofed here, getting his skates in the crease and basically allowing Scrivens to embellish to prevent a goal (or, considering he doesn’t have precognitive abilities, draw a call). And a coaches’ challenge probably doesn’t overturn this either.

But here’s our question: It’s an obvious dive. Sorta indisputable from the overhead angle, unless Burrows pulled a P.K. Subban after having a 12-pack of Pabst before the game for extra flatulent power.

So is the NHL going to go after goalie embellishment like it says it’s going after skaters who flop to draw calls? Are they exempt when it comes to plays in the crease, but get warnings/fines for stuff behind the net (a.k.a. the Mike Smith special)?
