Randy Moss blasted for ‘alligator arms’ by Bill Romanowski and Dwight Clark

Shutdown Corner

Randy Moss gave us one of the biggest stories of Super Bowl week when we he proclaimed himself to be the greatest wide receiver in football history.

The San Francisco 49ers receiver, however, was largely invisible once the game rolled around. Moss caught only two passes for 41 yards during the 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night and was targeted a total of five times by quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Moss' disappearing act didn't go unnoticed. He was lambasted back in San Francisco as a pair of former 49ers labeled him with the dreaded "alligators arms" charge on the set of a postgame show.

From CSN Bay Area:

Things got heated on the set of 49ers Postgame Live as Bill Romanowski, Dwight Clark, Dennis Brown and Dave Feldman broke down the play of Randy Moss -- the self-proclaimed greatest wide receiver of all time.

Romo and Dwight had a few comments to the contrary, Romo noting "Randy Moss alligator armed it, he didn't go up for the ball! He said he was the best receiver in the DAMN world — ok, you hear me? OH GOD! That's what pisses me off! You're playing in the SUPER BOWL, guys!"

Clark added on, "He didn't alligator arm it, he didn't even reach up for it! He watched it sail over his head!"

Romanowski and Clark were referring to a play in the second quarter when Kaepernick threw the first interception in 49er Super Bowl history. The quarterback sailed the ball over Moss' head and into the arms of Ravens safety Ed Reed. It's up for debate whether Moss would have been able to catch or at least deflect the pass but his performance the rest of the night didn't buy him the benefit of the doubt when it came to anything else.

It remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old Moss will come back for another season.

If that was his last performance, though, Moss didn't make it a memorable one.
