Before getting to Maurice Jones-Drew's quote, I am 100 percent certain that the story he told was in a joking manner and nothing to take seriously, although some people might get bent out of shape about it.

Because I don't think that his old fullback on the Jaguars, Greg Jones, ever seriously contemplated not blocking for him at the 1-yard line to win a fantasy football matchup between the two.

Here's the story, from admitted avid fantasy player MJD appearing with Evan Cohen and Steve Phillips on “Evan and Phillips in the Morning” on Sirius XM Radio (quote supplied by Larry Brown Sports):

“Greg Jones — see he’s not on the team anymore — perfect example: I was playing against him [in fantasy]. And we have our equipment guys keep us up on [the fantasy scores] during games. You know who you have and you see when you’re not on the field obviously but … I think if I scored, I was going to [beat Jones].

“We got onto the 1-yard line, and they were like, ‘We better call this run play.’ I’m like, ‘Greg, don’t do it.’ And he looked at me and he winked. And I was like ‘Greg. It’s not time to play. This is bigger than [winning in fantasy]. Let’s not do this.'”

Asked what the wink meant, MJD answered, “[Jones] wasn’t going to block the guy!”

I'm sure that Jones was messing with MJD like teammates do (and that Jones-Drew exaggerated a bit for comedic effect), so it's not worth a big hullabaloo here.

And, not that it needed to be said to most people, but Jones-Drew pointed out later on Twitter that, yes, it was a joke.

Now, what is serious is when you're playing fantasy football, you trade Robert Griffin III because you're set at quarterback, get MJD and watch him get hurt against Oakland in the first quarter the week you acquired him. Then you stash him on your roster all season because Jacksonville keeps holding out hope he's coming back from that foot injury, while your team withers away and eventually gets blown out in the playoffs. Yeah, that would be bad. Real bad.

As for Jones-Drew's foot injury and recovery (sigh), the team is holding out hope that he will be ready for the start of training camp at the end of the month. Adjust your fantasy football rankings accordingly.
