The Chicago Bears hired Marc Trestman to be their next head coach. As was first reported by the Chicago Tribune, Trestman was chosen over Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. Previously, Trestman was the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League.

Trestman won back-to-back Grey Cups with the Alouettes in 2009 and 2010. Before the CFL, Trestman was the offensive coordinator at North Carolina State, and worked in offensive roles for several different NFL teams.

But what likely interested the Bears the most in Trestman is his abilities to bring out the best in quarterbacks. Bernie Kosar, Rich Gannon and Steve Young all thrived with Trestman as their coach. Though the Bears were 10-6 in 2012, they missed the playoffs and had huge offensive problems. They ranked in the bottom five of the NFL in yardage gained, and couldn't win against playoff teams.

In choosing Trestman, the Bears passed over Arians, who led the Colts to the playoffs when Chuck Pagano was out battling cancer. Bevell is also a hot coaching prospect who is also interviewing with the Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars.
