Virginia’s uniforms are jumping in the way-back machine

Virginia is going retro for its game against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 29.

The university announced the Cavaliers would be sporting throwback uniforms from the 1968 team that went 7-3, but featured ACC Player of the Year Frank Quayle.

Quayle, a halfback, will be honored at halftime of the game for his time as a player and as a broadcaster for 29 years. During his career, Quayle rushed for 2,695 yards and caught 83 passes for 1,145 yards.

The uniforms are a lot of fun. They're classy and they do have a true throwback feel. The helmet has sort of a BYU look to it with the "V" encapsulated by the oval. The helmets also will feature a special decal as a salute to Quayle.

Even the game programs will be retro with a cover that is a tribute to the era.
