Texas DC Vance Bedford wants a sellout on Saturday (Video)

Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford wants to see a sellout for Saturday's season-opening game against North Texas.

Tickets still remain for the game, and Bedford doesn't want any excuses if Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium isn't at capacity.

"Staying at home, what do you mean staying at home?" Bedford rhetorically asked. "I hear that the state of Texas is all about what, football. Friday Night Lights, the University of Texas. What do you mean we have eight or nine thousand tickets left? People out there, get off your duff and go buy these tickets. There should be standing room only. If not, don't complain, don't say anything. Get in that stands right now, cheer us on to victory. North Texas, when they're on offense, shouldn't hear a thing. They should not be able to check. Why? It's standing room only. There should be 105,000 and the fire marshal's outside saying 'get out.'"

Could some fans be bypassing the game because it's expected to be a blowout? Texas is a 25.5 point favorite, though North Texas played Georgia very tough last year on the road. (This is a possible Spread Options hint.) It could be a game that's closer than expected and it's not a diss to the Longhorns to say that.

Bedford also had some fun with the Austin American-Statesman's low expectations for the Longhorns. Though, to be fair, not many people who don't wear burnt orange on a regular basis are expecting greatness from Texas this season. Even Charlie Strong preliminarily doused any firess of national title hopes.

"I don't buy the paper too often," Bedford said. "My wife and I had a chance to go to church on Sunday. I bought a paper. I saw two of our local columnists had us 7-5. I have nothing to worry about. There's no expectation whatsoever. Here in our local paper, they say we might win games at home and on the road. So, I have nothing to worry about. We're 7-5, they were experts, and they were right. I'm as good as gold."
