Steve Spurrier says RB Mike Davis should be '100 percent' for Texas A&M game

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Sunday he’s hopeful running back Mike Davis would be “100 percent” for Thursday’s season opener against Texas A&M.

“Hopefully Mike will be full speed and 100 percent by Thursday, we think he will be,” Spurrier said.

Last week, Spurrier said he wasn’t sure Davis was going to be ready to play the Aggies after suffering a rib injury on Aug. 16. He had been limited in practice.

Spurrier noted that even without Davis, the team would be in good shape the running back position.

“We have several good running backs,” Spurrier said. “Obviously Mike had over 1,000 yards last year and he's a very good runner. [We also have] Brandon Wilds, Shon Carson and David Williams, David was held out last year, so we have good running backs.”

Davis finished with 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns last season and is a Heisman Trophy contender coming into this year. And while questions mounted about his availability last week, Davis took to Twitter to quell concerns.

Carson and Wilds, both juniors, have played extensively during their careers and Spurrier noted that both have had good fall camps.
