South Alabama added a new member to its football team during its regular Monday press conference.

Colby Sawyer, 11, has acute lymphoblastic leukemia and signed his letter of intent with the Jaguars on Monday.

"I was a little nervous for the press conference, but I got through it," Sawyer said. "I'm excited about the game Saturday, and I really want us to win. I'm happy about being on the sideline, and I'm looking forward to a win. It feels really good to be a part of the team."

Sawyer signed with South Alabama as part of Team Impact, which helps match kids with chronic or life-threatening illnesses to teams. According to Al.com, he was diagnosed in June 2012 and had over a year of chemotherapy treatments.

South Alabama plays Texas State at home on Saturday and in addition to being on the sidelines, Sawyer will have his own locker and a jersey, which was presented to him at the press conference.

"It was really cool because Coach Jones is letting me come to the game and watch on the sidelines," Sawyer said. "They gave me a locker; that's my favorite thing. I'm going to keep my jersey and football stuff in it."

Earlier this year, North Carolina Central added 10-year-old Howell Brown III to its team.
