Boston College and Georgia Tech to play in Ireland in 2016

Boston College and Georgia Tech will be crossing the Atlantic to open the 2016 stadium.

The game between the two in Dublin, Ireland, will be played on Sept. 3, 2016.

According to ESPN, it'll be the third ACC league game played outside the United States. Clemson played Duke in Tokyo in 1981 and Wake Forest in 1982.

Penn State played Central Florida to open the 2014 season at Croke Park in Dublin, but the game between BC and GT will be played at Aviva Stadium. The stadium hosted the 2012 game in Ireland between Navy and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won that game 50-10.

Per Eurosport, the game is expected to bring in approximately €20-25 million to the local economy.

There was doubt that the game between the two schools would happen in 2016. About three weeks ago, Boston College athletic director Brad Bates said via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he couldn't say what was going to happen, though that a decision on the game would need to be made soon.

The Eagles will be the home team during the game; revenues for losing a possible home game were considered as part of the negotiations.
