Five months after he set Texas A&M’s single-game record for passing yards, Kenny Hill is reportedly leaving the program.

According to ESPN.com, Hill asked the program for his release and TCU is being reported as his likely landing spot.

Hill, who became known as “Kenny Trill,” just finished his sophomore season with the Aggies and threw for 2,649 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions, including that 511-yard performance in the season opener at South Carolina.

It was downhill for Hill after that, however. He played well against non-conference opponents and early on in SEC play as the Aggies started 5-0, but he threw six interceptions in a three-game span against Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama – all A&M losses.

Hill then served a two-game suspension for a violation of team rules, and freshman Kyle Allen replaced Hill as the team’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season. Allen, a five-star recruit in the class of 2014, led the Aggies to wins in three of the team’s final five games, including a Liberty Bowl victory over West Virginia.

In 2013, Hill played sparingly as Johnny Manziel’s backup and threw for 183 yards and a touchdown before winning a preseason competition with Allen to replace Manziel as starter to begin the 2014 campaign.

Now that he’s out the door via a transfer, Hill will have to sit out the 2015 season due to NCAA transfer rules. If TCU is where he ends up, he could be in line to replace Trevone Boykin for the 2016 season. Boykin had a breakout 2014 season and is likely to return for his senior season in 2015.

A&M will have just two scholarship quarterbacks heading into spring practice – Allen and Conner McQueen, a former walk-on who earned a scholarship. Kyler Murray, a four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit, is committed to play for the Aggies.
