Pitt wide receiver Tyler Boyd was sentenced to one year of probation Friday after a June arrest for DUI.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Boyd will take safe driving classes, have his license suspended for 90 days and pay court costs in addition to his probation. If he successfully completes the probation program, the charge can be expunged from his record.

Boyd, one of the top wide receivers in the country, was pulled over in the early morning hours of June 12. Police said Boyd tried to pass another vehicle at an intersection on Route 885 outside of Pittsburgh.

After he was pulled over, Boyd, 20, admitted to taking two shots of an alcoholic beverage a short time earlier and a portable breath test subsequently tested positive for alcohol.

A judge dismissed all other summary charges, including purchasing alcohol as a minor, careless driving, failing to use a turn signal and improperly approaching an intersection.

Pitt head coach Mark Narduzzi recently allowed Boyd, a junior, to return to the team after a one-month suspension. Panthers running back James Conner told reporters at ACC Media Days that Boyd apologized to the team.

“We know he's a leader for us. We don't look at him differently,” Conner said per the Tribune-Review. “Nobody is mad at him. Nobody looks at him like he's a failure. That's past us.”

In his first two seasons with the Panthers, Boyd combined for 163 catches, 2,435 yards and 15 touchdowns.
