Oregon coach Mark Helfrich releases statement on snowball incident involving football players

Not only did Oregon's football players go sledding on Friday, some were involved in a snowball incident on campus.

A video was posted by Oregon's student newspaper showing students throwing snowballs at cars trying to pass through campus and on Sunday night, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich released a statement saying that football players who participated in the snowball throwing would be punished.

“On Saturday, I was made aware of an incident that occurred Friday afternoon during the snow day involving multiple Oregon students including members of the football team," Helfrich said in the statement. "The behavior exhibited in the video is completely unacceptable and dangerous. We take this matter very seriously and disciplinary actions have begun.”

No word on which players are being disciplined.

One of the drivers in the video was a retired Oregon professor. Sherwin Simmons told the Emerald, Oregon's student newspaper, that he would not press charges in the incident. He was driving to donate some of his own paintings to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on campus.
