New bill wants Auburn to claim nine national titles
During an Alabama Senate hearing on Monday, Sen. Tom Whatley from Auburn proposed a bill that would allow Auburn University to claim nine national championships in football.
Yes, this is a real thing that really happened.
Oh God: Senate resolution urging Auburn to claim nine national championships in football introduced. #alpolitics

And the Auburn-should-claim-nine-championships-resolution goes to the Rules Committee. #alpolitics

Currently, Auburn claims two national titles — 1957 and 2010. However, the school had been toying with the idea of recognizing six other national titles from 1910, 1913, 1914, 1983, 1993 and 2004. Currently, the NCAA record book lists Auburn as the winner of national titles in 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993 and 2010.
When Auburn won that illustrious ninth title is apparently a mystery.
Obviously, this is some sort of arms race with Alabama, which at one point had six national titles before adding six more from before the Bear Bryant Era.
The resolution did prompt an Alabama alumnus to ask the question we’re all asking:
Pittman: "What exactly does this bill do?" #alpolitics

It’s good to know the Alabama senate has nothing better to do than this. Luckily, as Montgomery Advertiser reporter Brian Lyman points out, this resolution is unlikely to pass in the special session.
