Mother blames Jackson State players for the death of her son

The mother of a slain Jackson State student is pointing the finger at the football team for allegedly causing his death.

According to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Sanya Henderson, mother of Ryan Henderson, who was shot in the face and killed during a house party this past week, is alleging that her son was jumped and beaten by a dozen Jackson State football players before suffering the fatal gunshot wound. Henderson, who was not a football player, was at a party for outgoing football players at an apartment complex when things got out of hand.

Sanya Henderson said she heard from several people at the party that the football players were involved.

"They are doing very little with the football players," she told the paper. "They have only interviewed two of those players. They're saying they can't get the entire team down here to question them. I don't know why."

While football staff, players and administrators declined to comment about the allegations or the party, the Clarion-Ledger cites several Twitter messages and photos taken from the party.

The events of that night have split the alliances of Jackson State students and supporters on Twitter. Those who support the football team are using the hashtag #JusticeForJSUfootball while those who believe the football players were involved are using #JusticeForRyan.

This is a horrible story regardless of who was involved. If members of the football team did have something to do with the events that led to Henderson's death, and of course there's not enough information available to say definitively that they did, then, from a football perspective, this might spell the end of Jackson State's football program by the NCAA.
