The Missouri-Kansas rivalry could be reborn on the streets of Missouri
The rivalry between Missouri and Kansas might be over in athletics, but it could find a new home on the highways of Middle America.
The Kansas University Alumni Association is trying to persuade the Joint Committee on Transportation to offer Kansas-themed license plates in the state of Missouri. Missouri recently started offering Pittsburg State (located in Kansas) license plate themes and the alumni association thinks the more than 30,000 Kansas fans living in their rival state should be able to show their fan allegiance proudly on the back of their cars.
"Anytime you can get the Jayhawk out there, it's just a bonus," Danny Lewis, director of alumni programs for the association, told KUSports.com. "As you can imagine, you don't have too many Missouri representatives too willing to sign a University of Kansas license plate application."
Missouri Rep. Charlie Denison, a Republican in Springfield, who went to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, is actually pushing for the plates to be made and said he's sponsored the making of several license plate themes that don't have anything to do with the University of Missouri.
If the Joint Committee on Transportation approves the plates during the 2013 legislative session, they could hit the roads by June 2013. Hopefully highway patrol will ready for the increase in road rage along I-70 from Kansas City to St. Louis.
