Miami safety Jamal Carter suspended for Sun Bowl

Miami will be without a key member of its secondary for Saturday’s Sun Bowl against Washington State in El Paso, Texas.

The program announced Tuesday that junior safety junior safety Jamal Carter is suspended for the game due to a violation of team rules. Additionally, Carter will be “sent home from the bowl and will not take part in any further bowl activities this week,” the program said in a release.

No details of his rule violation were disclosed.

Carter played in all 12 games for the Hurricanes this season and was fifth on the team with 48 tackles, a career-high. He also registered one interception, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Carter had 26 tackles in 2014 and six tackles in 2013.

The Hurricanes (8-4) will take on the Cougars (8-4) at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday.
