Maryland LB Abner Logan says he's transferring

Abner Logan says he is moving on from Maryland.

Logan, a senior linebacker, announced on Instagram Sunday that he plans to transfer for his final season of college football. Though the program has yet to confirm the news, Logan reiterated his decision to the Washington Post.

“I want to thank everyone that has stood by me and supported me throughout my career at Maryland. I especially want to acknowledge the unbelievable bond I've created with my brothers that will last a lifetime,” Logan wrote in his Instagram post. “For my last year of eligibility I will be playing football elsewhere. Again thanks to the administration, coaches, and friends that helped and supported me throughout the way but it's come to the consensus that it is time to move on.”

Logan was expected to compete for a starting spot for the Terps under first-year head coach D.J. Durkin. Throughout spring, he was working his way back from the torn ACL that cost him the entire 2015 season, but was on track to be healthy for preseason. Before injuring the knee last August, Logan was a projected starter at outside linebacker.

Overall, Logan appeared in 19 games in his Maryland career, including four starts. His most productive season was 2013, when he totaled 37 tackles. If his academics are in order, Logan should be able to compete immediately at his next stop as a graduate transfer.

With Logan out of the picture, the Terps return two starters, Jermaine Carter Jr. and Jalen Brooks, but are inexperienced elsewhere on the linebacker depth chart.
