Mark Mangino is out as Iowa State offensive coordinator

Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads announced a change to his coaching staff on Monday.

Rhoads told reporters at his weekly press conference that offensive coordinator Mark Mangino is no longer a part of the program. Rhoads said he and Mangino met Monday morning and that they could not “get on the same page on a few important items” with the offense.

“We tried to talk that through again this morning in an effort to get us moving in a different direction. In the end, Mark was not interested in that. I wish that wasn’t the case, but I respect and understand his conviction.” Rhoads said.

According to the Ames Tribune, Rhoads did not specify whether Mangino, who joined the program before the 2014 season, resigned or was fired.

Mangino previously spent eight seasons as the head coach at Kansas from 2002-09. He also served stints as an offensive assistant at Kansas State, Oklahoma (where he won a national title as offensive coordinator in 2000) and Youngstown State, his alma mater.

Rhoads said that passing game coordinator Todd Sturdy will move into the offensive coordinator role..

Iowa State dropped to 2-5 with a 45-27 loss to No. 2 Baylor over the weekend. The Cyclones host Texas on Saturday.
