Malik McDowell wants to go to Michigan State, he’s just waiting for his mother to let him

The recruiting saga of Malik McDowell continues to be a standoff.

McDowell told BuckeyeGrove.com on Sunday that he was not talking to anyone other than Michigan State, the school he originally wanted to sign with on national signing day earlier in the month.

McDowell, a five-star defensive end, was committed to Michigan State, but his parents took issue with him attending a school in his home state of Michigan. McDowell signed with Michigan State on national signing day, but his father, who is not his legal guardian, was the co-signer. McDowell needs his mother to sign off on his collegiate choice before it can become official.

"I haven't talked to any other coaches," McDowell told the website. "I know that I've started to get some other offers and my coach said that some college coaches are still calling but I haven't talked to anybody."

McDowell said he’s still working on softening his mother’s stance toward Michigan State, though it’s not easy. She’s still against him going there even though he doesn’t want to go anywhere else.

"Yes that's pretty much it," McDowell said when asked if he was still working with his parents. "Hopefully [there will be a decision] before April 1st.”
