Jameis Winston's baseball season was just as good as his football campaign

Florida State’s baseball season ended on Saturday, but the legend of Jameis Winston continued.

Winston, a relief pitcher, finished the season with a 1.08 ERA, the best among Seminoles pitchers. In 33.1 innings pitched, Winston had seven saves, the most on the team, allowed just four earned runs, seven walks and struck out 31. Hitters managed a paltry .154 batting average in 117 at-bats.

However, Winston’s stellar baseball season was overshadowed by his trials off the field, which included a university investigation into a rape case involving him and Winston’s theft of crab legs from an area grocery store.

But Winston’s athletic pursuits seemed to be going swimmingly and his goal of being a two-sport professional athlete — ala Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders — is within reach. If Winston decides to enter the NFL draft following the upcoming football season, he’ll have to forego the Florida State baseball season in order to prepare for the NFL combine and draft. So, these baseball stats would be the ones that determine his baseball future. And if that’s the case, he’s definitely set himself up as a potential baseball draft pick.
