Former Oklahoma quarterback Kendal Thompson will transfer to Utah

With Trevor Knight looking like the clear cut starter for Oklahoma moving forward, Kendal Thompson decided to transfer in January. On Wednesday, his landing spot became official.

Thompson, who just finished his redshirt sophomore season, will transfer to the University of Utah and will be eligible immediately. The school made the news official on Twitter.

Thompson will graduate from Oklahoma in May and will have two years of eligibility to play for the Utes. He was expected to compete for the starting job for the Sooners last season but he fractured his foot on the first day of fall practice and he fell behind Knight and Blake Bell on the depth chart.

In his Oklahoma career, Thompson played in two games, completing 4-of-13 passes for 64 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

At Utah, Thompson immediately joins a crop of signal callers who will compete for the starting job. Thompson’s biggest competition will be Utah starter Travis Wilson, who was cleared for non-contact drills earlier this week after an intracranial arterial condition was discovered after he suffered a concussion against Arizona State last season.

Wilson’s career was thought to be in jeopardy, but now, after he continues to be monitored moving forward, he could regain his starting job. Adam Schulz, who started in Wilson’s absence, will also be in the mix for the Utes.
