Former FSU QB De'Andre Johnson: I should have walked away

Former Florida State QB De'Andre Johnson expressed remorse for his decision making in an interview with ABC on Tuesday.

Johnson was dismissed from the team July 6 after video surfaced of him punching a woman at a bar in Tallahassee on June 24. He had been charged with battery and indefinitely suspended from the team. Not long after the security footage of the incident was released, he was no longer a member of the team.

“I totally should have walked away. I’m sorry. I apologize to the lady in the incident, to her family ... to my mother,” Johnson said in the interview with Michael Strahan. “I know I wasn’t raised that way.”

Johnson's lawyer has claimed the woman used racial slurs before Johnson punched her.

His mother said she cried for three days after the incident.

Jones said she cried “for three days” following her son’s arrest.

“I still cry, 'cause I don’t teach my kids to raise their hand ... and for this to happen, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” Jones said.

Jones said she was furious at her son.

“I wanted to jump through the phone and wring his neck,” she admitted.

Johnson was a former four-star recruit in the class of 2015. He had arrived on campus in January and participated in spring practice with Florida State.

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook is also charged with battery for an incident that allegedly took place a day before Johnson's. Cook is accused of punching a woman outside of a bar after she said she refused to give her phone number to another Florida State player.

Saturday, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher reportedly told his players they were no longer allowed to go to bars.
