Florida State names Jameis Winston its new starting QB

Florida State finally has a new starting and it’s the guy everyone thought would win the job.

Redshirt freshman Jameis Winston, a former five-star recruit, piqued the college football world’s interest last spring when he threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns in the annual spring game. While many thought he’d be a shoo-in for the starting role, he was embroiled in a fierce competition with Jacob Coker this fall.

The two players split reps through the bulk of fall camp before coach Jimbo Fisher made the decision to make Winston the starter for the season opener against Pitt on Sept. 2.
