FAU coach Carl Pelini signals to spike the ball on fourth down to accidentally end the game (Video)

Carl Pelini’s second season as the head coach at FAU didn’t get off to the greatest start.

Pelini’s Owls were hammered 34-6 at Miami and to make matters worse, Pelini became the joke of the Internet with a late-game coaching gaffe.

With seconds ticking down in the game and FAU facing a fourth-and-4, Pelini signaled – quite emphatically – for quarterback Jaquez Johnson to spike the ball.

Yes, Pelini motioned to his quarterback to spike the ball on fourth down to essentially end the game.

Of course, Pelini didn’t know he was ending the game, he was trying to keep it going. However, in the quest to give his team one more meaningless play, he failed to actually look at the scoreboard and see how many downs he had left.

Pelini’s reaction after being told of his mistake is absolutely priceless.

I’d hate to be in the FAU locker room after that one.
