FAU becomes the latest to verbally challenge Alabama

One day, teams will stop giving Alabama bulletin board material.

Today is not that day.

Florida Atlantic linebacker Cory Henry decided to talk a little smack about No. 1 Alabama, the Owls' opponent this weekend. FAU is a 50½-point underdog, but Henry is confident his team can pull off the upset.

"They ain't what people think," FAU defensive end Cory Henry said, according to the Palm Beach Post. "They're good and everything but they can [be] beat, too. They just execute well. They just execute and beat you."

Wait, where have we heard this before? Oh yeah, Western Kentucky also fought the Tide in the media prior to its game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

"I'll tell you what, we're gonna play hard -- I'll tell you what, we're gonna freaking win this game," linebacker T.J. Smith said. "Truly, we got a great defense, great linebackers -- so watch this game, we're gonna win."

So what happened? The Hilltoppers were handled 35-0, but at least they beat the 40-point spread.

Henry contends FAU has a secret weapon.

"We got speed against them," Henry said. "You got speed you can win."

That's right, I forgot Alabama was super slow. If only Michigan, Western Kentucky and Arkansas had been able to exploit Alabama's incredibly slow players, they would have been able to stave off the incredible beatdowns they incurred.

If only they had FAU's game plan!

It's important to note that FAU is 1-2 this season and its only win has come against Wagner. It's lost to Middle Tennessee and is fresh off a 56-20 loss to Georgia, which means both teams must be faster than snail-paced Alabama.

Ya know, maybe if these teams didn't peacock in the media, they might be able to catch Alabama on an off day and have a chance for an upset. But once they talk smack, it gets back to the Tide and gets them fired up for a game they might have otherwise sleepwalked through.
