Only 16 perfect brackets remain in the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge

Duke players weren't the only ones to have their dreams dashed by Mercer on Friday afternoon.

Mercer's huge upset over the traditional college power also laid waste to countless perfect brackets in the Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge. The 78-71 stunner combined with Stanford's upset win over New Mexico on Friday leaves only 16 perfect brackets as of 4:33 p.m. ET.

A lot of people put their faith in Duke, only to see the Blue Devils fall in their first game. According to the pick distribution, 97.6 percent of entrants in the Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick'Em thought Duke would get past Mercer. The Blue Devils were the seventh-most popular national champion pick with 3.8 percent of entries thinking Duke would go all the way.

Four double-digit seeds have won their first tourney games so far. Wins by Dayton, Harvard and North Dakota State on Thursday counted for the bracket's first major damage
