Tom Brady benched in 4th as Patriots lose to Chiefs 41-7

Tom Brady had an unusual view of Monday night's game between his Patriots and the Chiefs: sitting on the bench.

Brady was pulled in the fourth quarter of the Patriots blowout loss to the Chiefs after throwing a pick-six to Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah that made the score 41-7.

All of a sudden, it was rookie Jimmy Garoppolo taking the snaps on the field while Brady sit alone on the bench with his head bowed.

Perhaps he was thinking about all the things that went wrong on a night where he threw two interceptions and fumbled twice, losing one of them.

Asked how Brady handled the news of his benching, he said, "They told me I was coming out, so . . ."

And that was that. Brady couldn't finish the answer, much like he couldn't finish the game - or every drive but one that he was part of on the night. He threw for 159 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions and two fumbles (one lost).

"It's just a disappointing night," Brady said of his thoughts on the sideline. "You never expect these things. We've been on the other end of it quite a few things. But we've lost some tough road games before. I know we're not going to quit, I can assure you that. There's not a guy in that locker room that's going to quit. We stick together. We work on the things we need to work on. We all feel we have a good football team, we just didn't play like a good football team tonight. But we'll see what we're made of this week."

It's tough to remember a time where Brady has faced more adversity than through these first four games, but he's taking it in stride.

"That's football," Brady said. "It's not easy, certainly this sport challenges you physically and mentally every day. It's certainly not easy for any team to show up and win games. We're fighting like every other team in the league."
