Sunderland 1-4 Manchester City: Aguero inspires Citizens once again

Manchester City sealed a superb win away at Sunderland on Wednesday night, as the Citizens recovered from going behind to win 4-1.

Conor Wickham put Sunderland 1-0 up, but City responded twice before half time as Sergio Aguero slammed home and then set up Stevan Jovetic to make it 2-1. After the break Pablo Zabaleta made it 3-1, then Aguero added another to make it 4-1.

With the win City are in second, six points behind leaders Chelsea, while Sunderland are in 14th on 14 points.

It was an open game at the Stadium of Light and the first half burst into life when Sunderland took the lead. A lovely ball through to Wickham saw the English forward race clear and chip over Joe Hart to put them home side 1-0 up. However just two minutes later City were level as Aguero raced clear and hammered home past Costel Pantilimon, who reacted like he didn’t even see the ball.

Following that equalizer City pressed hard to go ahead with the pace of Aguero and Jesus Navas causing Sunderland’s defense plenty of problems. Five minutes before half time the Citizens went ahead as Yaya Toure played a great ball into Aguero and the Argentine maestro dinked a lovely ball into Jovetic who slotted home. 2-1 to City at the break.

In the second half City didn’t waste any time in extending their lead as Samir Nasri dinked a lovely ball through to Zabaleta and the Argentine right back clipped the ball home. 3-1 to City. Game over. Aguero added some gloss to the scoreline late on as he flicked home James Milner‘s perfect cross, as the Citizens sealed their first win in five trips to the Stadium of Light.
