Jockey says California Chrome gives him best Triple Crown shot

Victor Espinoza had a chance to make history in 2002 on the back of War Emblem

California Chrome and Victor Espinoza have a chance to do something that hasn't been done since 1978. After winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the tandem is poised to bag the first Triple Crown in 36 years, and to hear Espinoza talk about the horse, it seems like a likely result.

"I believe I have a better chance this year than I did in 2002," said the jockey, who rode War Emblem to victories in the first two legs of the prestigious race series 12 years ago. "The reason is because I have a different kind of horse. With California Chrome, I have a lot of different tools I can use when I need it in the race."

The jockey was addressing the media after his horse's first workout at Belmont.

"The horse looks great," Espinoza said of California Chrome. "Seems like he's a little bit stronger -- a little bit more weight than the last time I saw him."
