UFC fighters refuse to choke Fox reporter, Vegas writer is pissed

Talk about having someone else fight your battles. Jeff Wolf from the Las Vegas Review-Journal covered a FOX taping of Kasey Kahne and Jeff Hammond meeting with UFC fighters Forrest Griffin and Wanderlei Silva in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Apparently, Wolf is not a big fan of Hammond, who serves as a racing analyst for FOX, and wanted to see someone beat his ass:

Griffith Griffin and Silva are tremendous athletes with a great tolerance for pain as they resisted any urge to throw a rear naked joke on Hammond who — admittedly prodded by Fox producers — kept trying to be the center of attention. It was just too much. And not very funny. Judge for yourself Sunday.

It sounded like a cool event to cover with NASCAR and UFC crossing paths. Clearly, Wolf didn't enjoy the filming session at the UFC Training Center because all he came away with was this hatchet job on Hammond. Wolf called Hammond the most annoying personality on FOX's NASCAR team. He's also said Hammond was the longtime crew chief for Jeff Gordon. I'm not a NASCAR guy but I thought Hammond did the bulk of his work with Darrell Waltrip.

With a deeper search of the LVRJ, Kahne was quoted about his meeting with Silva in another story:

Kahne -- all 5 feet 8 inches and 150 pounds -- spent an hour with mixed martial arts stars Forrest Griffin and Wanderlei Silva to film a segment for Sunday's race, which will telecast on Fox (Ch. 5).

"I held back a little with Wanderlei," Kahne, 28, joked of the simulated fight he had with the Las Vegas-based Ultimate Fighting Championship combatant. "Actually, he could have killed me at any time."

Wolf also said:

The encounters in the UFC Octagon might lead to a joint effort between a driver and the UFC to raise funds for injured American soldiers.

The guess here is that UFC and NASCAR may be talking about collaboration in working with The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
